The Marine Corps League was founded in 1923 by Major General John A. Lejeune, the 13th Commandant of the Marine Corps, and is the only veterans organization that has been chartered by Congress, receiving its charter on August 4, 1937.



Scholarship Program
The League offers scholarships to children and former Marines for attendance at accredited colleges and universities, funded through donations from members and subordinate units.
Legislative Program
As part of The Military Coalition, the League participates in national and state legislative issues affecting military readiness, benefits, and veterans’ entitlements.
Veterans Service Officer Program
The League assists veterans in processing claims with the Department of Veterans Affairs or other federal agencies.
Veterans Affairs Voluntary Service Program (VAVS)
Members contribute thousands of hours annually to support VA hospitals and facilities, providing morale, comfort, and assistance to institutionalized veterans.
Marines Helping Marines
This program supports wounded and injured Marines, fostering camaraderie and support among members.
Community Presence
Detachment 206 is one of over 1,000 detachments across the U.S. and overseas. L/Cpl Robert J. Slattery Marine Corps League provides a community for Marines to connect and share experiences.

Mission and Purpose
- Preserve Traditions: The League aims to preserve the traditions and spirit of the United States Marine Corps.
- Promote Interests: It promotes the interests of the Marine Corps and strengthens the bond among Marines and their families.
- Serve Members: The organization serves Marines, Navy Fleet Marine Force (FMF) Corpsmen, and FMF Chaplains who have worn the Eagle, Globe and Anchor emblem.
