James A Salerno (1918-2016)
James A. Salerno died Friday November 25, 2016 at his home in Cedar Knolls. He was 98.
James was born in Summit, NJ a son to the late Rosalia (Acquaviva) and Francesco Salerno.
He served in WWII as a Sgt for the Carlson Raider, 5th Marine division and fought at Bouganville, Guadalcanal, and Iwo Jima. He received 4 Bronze Stars, 2 Presidential Citations, a Silver Star, and a Purple Heart.
James worked as a general contractor for J.A. Salerno Sr. and Sons Inc.
He is a member of the Slattery Marine Corp League, the United States Marine Raider Association, the Military Order of the Purple Heart 246, the American Legion Post in Whippany, NJ.
He was survived by his wife Angela Rose ( Stavale) Salerno of 62 years, three sons, James A Salerno Jr., Gregory Salerno, and Michael J. Salerno, his sisters Ann Miller and Dolores Krofeifer, and 5 grandchildren James A. Salerno III, April Marie Salerno, Marisa Ann Salerno, Michael Daniel Salerno, and Ava Paradise Salerno.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated on November 28 at St Vincent de Paul RC Church, Stirling and entombment followed at St. Teresa Mausoleum in Summit. NJ.

James A Salerno died on November 25, 2016.
