Karl H (“Gringo”) Greengos (28 July 1948 – 12 December 2023)
Karl Greengos was born on July 28, 1948 and grew up in Morris Plains, NJ. He graduated from Morristown High School in 1966.
He died on December 12, 2023 at the age of 75.
Karl served two tours in Vietnam in the US Marine Corps and achieved the rank of Lance Corporal.
“Gringo” was described by his friends:
- Larger than life and casting a big shadow
- While coming across strong, he was a teddy bear underneath
- Karl could make anything funny and was fun to be with
- One of a kind
- A great guy!
- Very generous to me! Did a lot for veterans!
- Loved the Marines all of his life, but chain of command –not so much
- Karl is the reason that NJ flies MIA flags—he got them to do it
He was survived by his ex-wife, and devoted caregiver, Dayle.

Karl H Greengos died on December 12, 2023.
Karl was a member of the Slattery Detachment of the Marine Corps League and served as the Commandant in 1987.
He was named the Detachment Marine of the Year in 1988.
