Charles Donald Patterson, age 89, of Hughesville, Maryland, passed away on September 13, 2025.
He was born on April 8, 1936. Don proudly served as a US Marine and later retired from the Prince George’s County Sheriff Department.
Following his public service, he worked as a self-employed photographer and internet/media consultant (created webpages). He dedicated his retirement years to supporting veterans. In his community, he was affectionately known as “the cane man”
The Slattery Detachment remembers Don as an active member who, among many other activities, spearheaded trips to Walter Reed Hospital in Bethesda to visit the wounded troops.
Full military honors were rendered at his graveside service held on November 20th at the Cheltenham Veterans Ceremony (11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, MD). Keith Butler was present to represent the Slattery Detachment.
